Features of the Glass Box Project
Live Graphic Weather
Gone are the days of gathering weather information just
before takeoff and hoping the weather is as predicted
when the aircraft arrives at the destination. With the live
graphic weather delivered with the Glass Box systems,
airspeed, route and destination changes can be made on
the fly to avoid the weather the crew watches develop minute by minute on the
panel display. Beyond improved safety and comfort, these systems help save fuel
and time when the weather is poor.
Clutter Reduction
Electronic Flight Bags (EFBs) are convenient,
but the safest place for this information
is on the panel to reduce clutter and keep both
hands free. Another benefit is coupling the
Glass Box charts with GPS inputs to show
the aircraft position on the chart.
Charts & Maps
It is estimated that most flight crews lug as many as 50 pounds of Jeppesen charts on every flight. Glass Box systems eliminate this weight. Displaying these charts and maps on the panel (where they should be) also reduces clutter and, because they’re digital, updating them is quick and easy.
Upgrade Path
Imagine never outgrowing your avionics system. Glass Box technology has made that a reality. No matter what the emerging CNS/ATM rules require, software will update the Glass Box products to meet the challenge.
