According to Service Letter (SL) No. 2843 and 2844, Universal Avionics has announced they will cease repair, support and the navigation database updates for the UNS-1M and UNS-1Msp series Navigation Management System, effective January 1, 2013. The UNS-1M has been a GPS-based navigation standard for Learjets, King Airs, Citations and other turboprop and light jet aircraft.
There are two trade-in programs Universal is offering to operators
- Operators affected by the SL may trade-in their unit for credit toward a WAAS/SBAS-FMS.
- Operators may trade-in their unit for a refurbished UNS-1E or UNS-1ES FMS with a one-year factory warranty that is fully upgradeable to WAAS/LPV capabilities. Because there are a limited number of UNS-1E and UNS-1Esp FMS units available from Universal, I recommend that you do not delay in taking advantage of these programs.
Duncan Aviation has a limited number of UNS-1E (or UNS-1Esp) Flight Management System units available. Installation of this system can be accomplished within one week.
For more information or to schedule your installation, contact your nearest Duncan Aviation facility.
