Tim Garity To Sit On Galaxy Maintenance Planning Committee
Duncan’s Astra/Westwind Tech Rep Tim Garity has been selected to sit on the Galaxy Maintenance Planning Committee. This Industry Steering Committee position will allow Tim to be involved in the development of the Galaxy and, along with other committee members, to help make the Galaxy a great success.
Astra SPX FSECU Changes
Astra SPX’s from S/N 081 and on have a different Flap Slat Electronic Control Unit than earlier models. This means there is also a different reset procedure to follow in the case of an FSECU trip. If a failure occurs, the FSECU may be reset as normal. A second reset also may be accomplished as before. After the second reset, however, there is a reset lockout triggered that will not allow a reset for the next 10 minutes.
Improper Torque Values Can Cause Stiff Steering
At any Nose Wheel Steering Cable change, you will want to check torque values on the Steering Control Valve per Maintenance Manual Chapter 32-50-04, page 402. These torque values are critical and have caused some customers to experience stiff steering.
Troubleshooting Assistance
If you experience an APU failure APU Operation & or shutdown, immediately record the “BITE” code on the APU cockpit control before selecting the APU “OFF.” Selecting “OFF” before recording the display code will cause the information to be lost permanently. In addition, record the “BITE” codes located on the Duncan APU regulator controller and the AlliedSignal electronic control unit before attempting another start. Once another start attempt is initiated, these “BITE” codes will be lost as well. Also note any pertinent aircraft operating parameters during the time of the failure. By recording all three “BITE” codes and any additional information related to the failure, you will enhance the ease and speed of troubleshooting.
For further APU operation and troubleshooting assistance, contact Joe Huffman, Jim Ferguson or Tom Seidl at 1.800.228.4277.
Need Another Seat In Your Astra / Westwind?
Have you ever had the need for one more seat in your Astra/Westwind? Duncan Aviation has an FAA-approved modification that installs a seat belt on the lav seat for use in take-offs and landings. Call Jeannine Falter or Tracey Caciola Boesch for more information. 1.800.228.4277.
Spare Wires In Gear Switches
The Astra main gear actuator down lock switches normally have a spare set of wires that can be used to restore the green down lock light circuit if the normal switch contacts go bad. Switch contact numbers 10 and 12 normally are not used, and can be used as spares. By swapping pins T and V and pins H and K on the switch side of the wheel well connector, the circuit should work properly. When a new switch is installed, no rewiring will be needed, since the switch comes with the connector installed. For the best performance of the actuator switches, make sure the new style “gold contact” switches are installed, per SIL 1125-32-049.
The Astra and Westwind nose gear ground contact switches can have either a 6-wire or a 12-wire switch installed. If you have the 12-wire switch, the extra wires can be used as spares, should some of the contacts fail.
