Consider Replacing Existing Screws With Stainless Steel

During a C Check on your Astra, the leading edge panels come off. The panel screws often cause an unsightly paint chip larger than the screw heads. To fix this, try painting the panels without the screws and install stainless steel screws in place of the originals. The screws’ part numbers i NAS1581C3T-XXX. (The “x’s” represent the length of the screws needed.)

Keep in mind that if you come to Duncan Aviation for your C Check inspection, we will not charge labor for the replacement of these screws.

Make Rigging Ground Contact Switches Easier

The landing gear ground contact switches used on Astras and Westwinds contain a series of switches that do not make contact at the same time. One of our customers, Joe Meyeres with Universal Underwriters, brought it to our attention that the use of a stethoscope will allow you to listen to the switch activity while rigging, making it easier to tell if all of the switches have made contact.

A Look At SB 72-3613

As you know, AlliedSignal released SB 72-3596 early last year to replace the number 1, 3, 4 and 5 carbon seals with the new design segmented carbon seal and ceramic runners. Under this service bulletin, all four seals had to be replaced, requiring a core entry.

AlliedSignal has now released SB 72-3613, which allows us to replace just the number 1 and 3 carbon seals at the next MPI or if you develop a problem in this area between maintenance events. At the time this bulletin is accomplished, there are several other bulletins that must be complied with. These bulletins involve rework of the Fan Support Housing and the Breather Pressurizing Valve.

Rework of the Accessory Gearbox and Transfer Gearbox is also required. AlliedSignal has issued special pricing on the new parts needed. Contact Jon Dodson/Cecil Sloan for info at 1.800.228.4277.

Better Cockpit / Lav Dividers

Duncan’s interior installers have developed a nwe cockpit/lav divider door system that uses ball bearing glides for improved longevity and function. Check Your Bleed Air Valves

Duncan offers some hard-to-find services for Astras/Westwind s. For instance, we can repair, overhaul and update bleed air switching valves 3213894-1-1, 3213894-4-1 and 3213894-5-1. As part of the valve overhaul, we can also overhaul the thermal compensator. Tech Rep Tim Garity has an Inflight/Ground Test Procedure that you can use now to check your aircraft’s bleed switching valves. To get copies, fax back our cover letter.

We also have the capability to reseal Astra landing gear actuators.
