Horizontal Stabilizer Attach Fitting Lugs
Don’t forget to schedule your Horizontal Stabilizer Attach Fitting Lugs when you do your other 5,000 hour requirements. The initial inspection of 4,400 hours has been increased to 5,000 hours. Repeating inspection intervals are at 2,000 hrs.

Landing Light Replacement?
If you are a Westwind operator who has badly eroded tip tank landing light lenses, but are holding off replacing them due to cost, you may replace only the glass lens and avoid the expense of replacing the complete assembly. The part (number 213914- 1) is held in place with RTV.

Extend The Life Of Your Main Gear Door Seals
Duncan technicians have found that the life of the Astra main gear door seals can be extended by applying a light coat of silicon base lube, such as DC4. It also helps the gear get in the uplocks a bit easier.
SB 1125-27-167 1
Here is a tip for operators of Astras that are pre-serial number 096, and haven’t yet complied with Service Bulletin 1125-27- 167, which activates the “Slat Out” light through the FSECU, rather than the PDU. The next time you have the interior out, for whatever reason, consider having a new wire installed from the lav to the cockpit per the SB. The aircraft will then be wired correctly and make it much easier to accomplish the SB if and when you need it.
For more info, please contact Tim Klenke in LNK at 800.228.4277 or Pete Kilmartin in BTL at 800.525.2376.
Do You Have An Engine Display System (EDS)?
Astra operators with the Engine Display System (EDS) option, should pull the EDS circuit breakers when performing extended hangar power ups to avoid heat build-up in the displays. It’s also a good idea to dim the annunciator panel lights on all Astras for the same reason; this will further reduce heat. One of the annunciator circuit breakers should also be pulled.

Do You Know Your Oil Type And Oil Change Interval?
TFE731 engines that have incorporated ceramic No. 4 & No. 5 seal runners per Service Bulletins TFE731-72-3596, TFE731-72-3597, or TFE731-72- 5 111, are now required to use Mobil 254 oil when servicing the oil system. In addition, the Mobil 254 oil must be changed at an interval not to exceed 450 +/- 50 hours.
Following incorporation of the above referenced service bulletin, there were 16 failures of ceramic seal runners, all on engines using oils other than Mobil 254. It was determined that accumulated coke from the oil came into contact with the ceramic seal runners causing the runners to fail.
Mobil 254 oil has shown less tendancy to form coke than any of the other previously approved oils. If oil other than Mobil 254 has been, or is currently being used, the oil must be replaced with Mobil 254. Service Information Letter F731-89 gives the pertinent details of the requirements and procedures to be followed to comply with this requirement.
For more info about this development, please contact Cecil Sloan or Jon Dodson in Lincoln at 800.228.4277 or Dan Arrick in Battle Creek at 800.525.2376.
