Airfone Service to be Discontinued
- Steve Elofson
Verizon Airfone recently announced that it would discontinue air-to-ground phone service on Dec. 31, 2007. Verizon is encouraging customers to “seek an alternative hardware and service provider who specializes in airborne telecommunications.” Approximately 4,000 aircraft are currently equipped with the MagnaStar system, which will be affected.
Duncan Aviation has developed several telecommunication solutions for operators who are faced with this looming disruption of phone service. For more information about options available, contact Steve Elofson in Lincoln at 800.228.4277 ext. 1603 or Kim Konopnicki in Battle Creek at 800.525.2376 ext. 8417.
Increase Aircraft Safety and Value
- Steve Elofson
In order to ease pilot workload and update aircraft, many operators are installing active- matrix liquid-crystal displays in their cockpits. The Collins Proline 21 IDS three-display system upgrade is available for the strait Astras and the Astra SPs and the customers who have installed it have enjoyed its safety features and cleaner look. Being able to see Jeppeson Charts and XM Weather displayed on the large-format 8" x 10" LCD multi-function display (MFD) is most notable. Collins has also added two more features—Engine Indication (EI) and Black Instrument color choice.
The next Astra scheduled for the Pro Line 21 upgrade will wave goodbye to analog engine gauges and see them digitally represented on the top portion of new MFD. For additional information on how to add value to your aircraft contact Steve Elofson in Lincoln at 800.228.4277 ext. 1603.
MAPCO Agreement
- Karl Detweiler
Duncan Aviation has signed an agreement with MAPCO for the repair, maintenance, and refurbishment of MAPCO water handling and food handling products. We have in stock in Lincoln repair parts for MAPCO products such as water containers, ovens, etc.
When an aircraft is down for maintenance is a great time to have these products looked at, old seals replaced with new, hinges fixed, heating elements checked for corrosion, integrity, and operation, etc. These items are sometimes overlooked until the “last minute,” which isn’t a good time to discover the equipment doesn’t work, or is leaking.
Gus Blohn’s team (ELM) in Lincoln Accessory shop is prepared and ready to quickly evaluate, repair, and refurbish these units. Contact Gus Blohn at 800.228.4277 ext. 1038.
