APU Modification/Upgrade
- Scott Shefke
Bombardier anticipates the release of an APU modification/upgrade for Challenger 601 & 604s in 4th qtr 2005.Without a lot of immediate detail, we do know the modification/upgrade will be accomplished per SB 601-0568 and 604-49-006 which will involve the addition of an air inlet scoop on the fuselage, new ECU and brackets, installation of an additional exhaust shield and a new 150CL APU. This upgrade will greatly improve the APU’s performance and reliability.
If you are anticipating an APU HSI or O/H event in 4th quarter 2005 or 1st quarter 2006, take advantage of this long-awaited upgrade. This upgrade can be accomplished on its own or in conjunction with a scheduled 5-day maintenance event.
CPCP - Corrosion Protection Control Program
- Scott Shefke
The CPCP program consists of visual inspections and the application of additional corrosion preventative compounds. This program is mandatory for Canadian-registered aircraft. U.S.- registered aircraft are not required to participate in this program if they are NOT a scheduled 135 operation. Operators who participate in 91 operations currently have no FAA regulations to mandate compliance. The typical corporate operator currently has no FAA regulations to mandate compliance even if they do charter work; the catch here is as long as you are an ON-demand charter and NOT a scheduled 135 operation.
If you choose to implement this program, you can purchase the approved program from Bombardier for $9,000.00 or option two is to create your own and have it approved.
Implementation states that aircraft older than 14 years as of December 2003 should incorporate a CPCP program within five years. Aircraft older than 24 years have four years to incorporate a CPCP program. Incorporation follows current maintenance schedules.
Be aware this is mandatory for Canadian registered aircraft and may have impact on future used aircraft sales decisions.

Are you in Compliance?
- Scott Shefke
For those of you who are either required, or just like to keep your aircraft in compliance with current service bulletins, be advised that compliance of the following bulletins is either coming due or has recently become past due. These are the rudder adjustable balance spring SB 600-0714, 601-0549, 604-27-013, and the Flap actuator SB 600-0725, 601-0566, 604-27- 022. Bombardier encourages all Challenger operators to comply with these recommended bulletins in order to avoid the possibility of a forthcoming AD to enforce compliance.
