Citation Spring 2008
Converting to MSG3
— Justin Merkling
Eventually all Citation aircraft will follow an MSG3 inspection program. Currently it is the 650s’ turn for a mandatory conversion. SL650-05-10-R1 provides instructions to perform this conversion. It is a very simple process and it can be done from the comfort of your desk chair. Simply provide the required info to Citation Maintenance Engineering and they will take it from there. If for some reason converting right now is not possible, revision one of the service letter contains all the phase inspection documents that have been removed from chapter 5 of the maintenance manual. As I mentioned earlier, this is a mandatory service letter and must be completed by March 31, 2009.
The Citation 560XL and 750 also currently have MSG3 inspection programs. Right now, conversion to MSG3 is not mandatory for these aircraft. In order to convert over to MSG3 for both the 560XL and 750, a service bulletin must be completed– SB560XL-05-01 and SB750-05-02 respectively. Just like the 650, conversion is completed by sending the required information requested by the bulletin off to Cessna Maintenance Engineering. Conversion of the 560XL and 750 are somewhat more involved, so there is a cost associated with these bulletins.
Once your aircraft is set up on the MSG3 program, you do not have to change your preferred service provider. Inspections can be completed at any Citation Service Center.

525 Series Relief Tube Bulletins
— Justin Merkling
The Service Bulletins to disable the pilot relief tubes (SB525-53-20, SB525A-53-01 and SB525B-53-01) have always had to be complied with at a Cessna-owned facility. Cessna is now allowing all authorized service centers to comply with these service bulletins. However, Alert Service Letters (ASL525-53-04, ASL525A-53-05 and ASL525B-53-02) must be complied with at a Cessna-owned facility and must be complied with in conjunction with the disable service bulletin to receive proper credit from Citation. So, if the alert service letters have already been complied with, then the disable service bulletin can be accomplished at any authorized service center. Keep in mind, AD2008-03-10, effective March 11, 2008, also addresses this issue.
RVSM Manual Required
— Paul Cummings
If your aircraft is RVSM certified, you are required to carry an RVSM manual on board the aircraft at all times.
This manual is critical for providing instructions on how to maintain the RVSM capability of your aircraft. It includes items such as repainting the RVSM area, repairing damage and routine maintenance. For some operators, it will state whether maintenance personnel are required to have specific training from you. This manual may say to use a service bulletin, STC, or airframe maintenance manual to perform the maintenance. Most importantly for your maintenance provider, it gives the requirements for technical data and training so your aircraft can be returned to service.
When work of any nature is performed on an RVSM-certified aircraft, the corrective action write up has to state that the RVSM manual was used. If the RVSM manual simply says to use a service bulletin or maintenance manual, the service provided still must state that the RVSM manual was used in conjunction with the service bulletin or maintenance manual.
Having this manual with you will ensure a smooth maintenance event, maintain RVSM compliance and keep you on schedule.
