The Best Deals May Be Gone By Fall

In the last twelve months the secondary market of business aviation has literally turned upside down. The number of aircraft available for sale has increased 114% in the first two quarters of 2009 compared to the same period last year. At the same time, the number of pre-owned transactions has dropped 71%. During the second quarter of 2009, there has been a modest increase in sales led primarily by increased transactions in the Falcon 50EX and Hawker 800XP markets. We feel this trend will continue as serious buyers recognize and take advantage of the best aircraft values on the market. By fall, we expect the best buys to be gone in many market lines.

A large number of aircraft were withdrawn from the market from sellers not willing to sell at current prices. New listings have replaced those so the net number for sale is about the same.

Prices appear to have reached the bottom in specific markets with potential buyers unable to duplicate previous one-off aggressive pricing. Refurbishment capacity and current aircraft availability continue to create buying opportunities for customers who have retained us to keep an eye on a specific market line and have an established a “strike price” strategy.
