Duncan APU Exempt from APU Provisions of AD-76-19-02
AD 76-19-02 addresses the problem of fuel entering the aircraft air conditioning system as a result of malfunctions in the fuel tank pressurization system on Falcon 20s.
The problem occurs when the fuel tanks are pressurized and the pressure source deactivated (i.e. engines shut down). Leakage from the fuel tank pressurization check valves allows fuel to flow into the aircraft bleed system plumbing. This fuel is carried into the cabin by the air conditioning system. This can also occur with APU’s that pressurize fuel tanks during APU operation. Dassault has issued two service bulletins to correct this problem.
SB 558 isolates the main engine bleed plumbing from the fuel tank pressurization plumbing to eliminate the possibility of fuel leaking into the pressurization ducting.
SB 567 addresses the problem as it relates to APU installations. It requires removal of fuel tank pressurization by the APU to eliminate the possibility of fuel leakage.
Duncan’s APU (STC SA2459CE) includes a boost pump and doesn’t require the fuel tanks to be pressurized. Falcon SB 567 and the APU provisions of AD 76-19-02 are not applicable with the Duncan APU installation.
