Did You Clean Your Hydraulic Filter Or Replace It?
Operators should ask their service facility whether they clean the hydraulic cleanable filters or whether they replace them with new ones. For years many service facilities could not meet Falcon requirements for cleaning and flow testing hydraulic filters. Replacing the filters with new ones was a common practice.
Duncan can meet the requirements of the component maintenance manuals for cleaning and flow checking these hydraulic filters. While performing an inspection, instead of replacing the filters with new ones, check into sending filters in to be cleaned and flow checked. It is also possible to establish a rotable pool of filters, sending filters to be cleaned and tested, and then putting them in an inventory for future use. Cleaning filters saves a lot of money, as well as being more convenient.

8.33 Com Radio Modifications Are Here!
On October 7, 1999, all flights above FL245 in Austria, Belgium, Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and France (above FL195) will require radios operated between 118-136.975Mhz to be capable of channeling frequencies with 8.33Khz spacing to ease overcrowding of the Corn frequencies in congested areas. The aircraft must be equipped with two 8.33 Corn radios to meet this requirement.
Rockwell Collins has recently released a service bulletin to upgrade the VHF-21/22/422 Corn Radios to include the European-mandated 8.33 frequencies. Modifications to the Collins CTL-22, RTU-4210/4220 and the Gables G6860 Controllers are also available.

Falcon 50 & Falcon 900 Airbrake Hinge Wear
As Falcon 50s and 900s age, Duncan is seeing more and more wear in the airbrake hinges during routine inspections. Most of the wear is found in the center and outboard airbrake panel hinges but has also been found in the inboard panel hinges. Maximum wear is .27 mm’s (.011”). To prolong the life of these hinges, we recommend lubrication at regular intervals.

Inspection Revisions
Several revisions have come out recently that will affect the downtime and pricing for upcoming inspections. Please be aware that any quotes are to be written including the latest Chapter 5 revisions, particularly on the Falcon 10 aircraft. New additions to the maintenance schedule consisting of the following items are now applicable to those aircraft scheduling for 3C and C Airframe Inspections:
- 55.11.00 Inspection/check of horizontal stabilizer box structure.
- 55.31.00 Inspection/check of vertical stabilizer box structure and fin stub.
- 57.10.05 X-ray Inspection of wing root reinforcing plate (for aircraft < 142)

Plan In Advance To Eliminate Additional Downtime
Tank and recess corrosion continue to plague many operators performing pre-buys and 2C inspections. Additional time allowances need to be considered when scheduling your pre-buy or major inspection since corrosion may be found.
