Falcon 50 #2 Engine S-Ducts
— Mark Goertzen
Special attention needs to be taken when performing inspection checks on the S-duct both during the basic and 4A+ interval inspections.
Age and environmental conditions may affect the inside skin surfaces. Upon access through the S-duct inspection door, look for signs of corrosion working its way through the anodizing into the aluminum. Shine a flashlight across the surface looking for specks of “pepper” that do not rub off, indicating pitting corrosion. If corrosion is found, Duncan Aviation highly recommends removing it and painting the entire inside skin surface with the PU-66 paint scheme.
Also, while the exterior panels are removed during the 4A+ inspection (work card no. 698.C), look at the 12 o’clock position, around the backbone air-duct. The inside S-duct skin and the outside ribbed air louver skin are spot welded together. Age, heat and possible #2 engine fan imbalance may cause separation of these spot-welds. They appear as small, circular-shaped cracks at the spot weld point, which can easily be fixed if caught early. Duncan Aviation technicians are highly experienced in both the inspection and performance of approved repairs.

Securaplane and Duncan Aviation Partner for F900 STC
— Karl Detweiler
Securaplane and Duncan Aviation have partnered to develop an STC for the installation of the Securaplane main ship batteries in the F900. STC approvals for installation of the Securaplane battery are broadening. In the past, various Falcon aircraft operators have installed the new, truly solid, lead acid main aircraft batteries under FAA field approvals. The Securaplane battery can be installed in the F50 and F2000 models by STC installation. STCs can be purchased from Dassault, and the Securaplane batteries purchased from Securaplane distributors including Duncan Aviation.
The Securaplane battery has been approved as a direct PMA replacement for Concorde lead acid battery installations. Falcon aircraft with Concorde lead acid battery installations can have the Securaplane battery installed by PMA replacement.
The Securaplane main ship battery continues to be a hot topic for corporate aircraft operators. Dassault has proven its confidence in the battery by choosing it as the production main aircraft battery in the Falcon 7X. The 30-month full replacement warranty (not pro-rated), improved amp-hour performance ratings, better hot and cold weather performance, vastly reduced maintenance requirements, and reduced “per flight hour costs” have operators looking to incorporate the Securaplane main ship batteries into their operations.
