Spey Engine Throttle Control
— Jim Overheul
There is a "Controlex" engine control installation update for Gulfstream GII, GIIB, and GIII aircraft with the "Teleflex" engine control system. This system updates the current throttle control system to what is being used on late model GIII and GIV aircraft.
The Controlex system installs a one piece Controlex cable assembly from the power lever sector in the pylon to the nose cowl lever assembly. This eliminates the excessive play and altitude stiffness (freezing) and throttle knob splits typically associated with the Teleflex system.
There is a lead time to procure the necessary parts associated with this modification, so if you plan to do this modification, please plan in advance of your next maintenance visit.
Exterior Refurbishment Requirements
— Jim Overheul
Are your exterior refurbishments meeting the manufacturer’s maintenance requirements?
GAMPS 4000 is a surface preparation and painting procedure for Gulfstream transport aircraft. It is a detailed description of the requirements for surface pretreatments and finish systems to the exterior surfaces of Gulfstream aircraft. These requirements call out specific restrictions that must be adhered to for continued airworthiness and longevity of your aircraft. There are also FAA Advisory Circulars (AC) that provide guidance to these same restrictions.
Since an aircraft may experience several refurbishments throughout its lifetime, we recommend that you investigate your selected refurbishment facility to be sure that they are using processes that meet the manufacturer's requirements.
Technical Appraisals
— Doug Donahue
Duncan Aviation can provide Technical Appraisals and on-site evaluations for customers interested in purchasing a pre-owned GII, GIIB, GIII, or GIV aircraft.
A Technical Appraisal is an evaluation of the entire aircraft to include research of log books for inspection status, ADs, ASCs, CBs, STCs, alterations, existence and accuracy of life limited items.
All inspections for the Technical Appraisal will be in accordance with the requirements of the appropriate Gulfstream CMP card. Inspections will include airframe with limited NDT, landing gear, engines, and APU.
A detailed pre-purchase inspection report will be provided when the technical appraisal is completed.
Please contact Doug Donahue at 800.525.2376 for more information.
Chapter 5 Concealed Inspection
— Jim Overheul
Chapter 5 of the Gulfstream Maintenance Manual states that any GI through GIV, except aircraft on MSG-3, with more than 2000 landings should be given a thorough visual inspection whenever any portion of the cockpit or cabin structure is exposed by a modification or repair unless this area has been inspected within the last 1000 landings. This visual inspection must be recorded in the aircraft logbook.
