EFIS Power Supply Info
While performing a 1200 hr. check of the EFIS power supplies on a Hawker 800, the EFIS tubes blanked out with the right generator off and the bus tie open. 35 amp. ciruit break B5 on panel ZK popped and smoke came from sub panel C of the DA panel. We found a 1 amp. breaker (EFIS equipment #1) chafed into a wire bundle behind sub panel C.
Chapter 5 has no requirements for opening panels F20 and F21 for inspection.
Hawker Paint Problems Addressed At Duncan
When having your Hawker repainted, there are a couple of issues to be aware of regarding the paint work. There are critical 'dome' rivets above the wings on the fuselage. Depending on the number of paint jobs your aircraft has been through, these rivets can be worn below limits. This is an extremely costly situation and can result in aircraft grounding.
Because of new restrictions on chemical strippers that will be used in the near future, the use of fill primers is also something to consider. Again, the point is to eliminate sanding on and near the skin of the aircraft.

Duncan Landing Gear Capabilities
Landing gear overhaul requirements for many Hawker 700 and 800 operators are coming due. Duncan has been completing these overhauls in-house, and downtime associated with this inspection has been running at about 3 weeks to complete.
When planning for landing gear overhauls, many operators are not completely aware of all the modifications which might apply to their landing gear.
In order to expedite the gear overhaul, it is important to know the applicable modifications for your gear and which modification you want to accomplish during the overhaul. This will help control the costs and turntime of your overhaul.

Oil Filter Difficulties?
Some operators who have Garrett APUs installed in their Hawkers have been experiencing difficulty changing oil filters because access is extremely tight. In many cases, operators must remove the entire APU to change the oil filter.
If you are experiencing this problem with your APU oil filter, Duncan has a solution. Please contact Jeff Manion at 1.800.228.4277.
Engine Shop Begins First Carbon Seal Inspection
The first inspection of the new style #1 and #3 carbon seals and runners has recenly been performed at Duncan. These seals were installed 1400 hours ago and made it through the entire MPI interval without any problems. John Deeney, and Engineering Specialist with AlliedSignal, was here to inspect the seals and runners with us. John was very pleased with the appearance and general condition of the seals. The carbon seals appeared to be in excellent condition, showing little wear or carbon buildup. The seal runners were in the same excellent condition. They showed even wear patterns and no signs of seal skipping. The #1 carbon seal and rotor were reinstalled. Although the #3 carbon seal was also in excellent condition, it was removed and sent to Phoenix for further testing. The seal runner was reinstalled with a new #3 carbon seal.

Duncan Tech Tips
Improper rigging of the elevator trim tabs can cause loss of nose down trim at MMO speeds. Short cutting the M.M. should not be considered when rigging the elevator trim system.
