Hawker 800 RVSM: Static Port Plates and the Importance of Paint
— Dick Hyde
In recent months we have found aircraft yielding unacceptable static port heights that relate to of all things, paint! Thorough examination revealed these anomalies are due to paint buildup of varying thickness around the static plates. Paint chipping is also a threat that can alter airflow across the static plates.
Our process of eliminating an airflow problem involves removing the plates and creating a smooth critical area for the plates to mount upon. If you are considering paint for your RVSM capable Hawker 700/800, be sure this process (or another proven method) is employed to protect you from immediate and future RVSM airworthiness issues.
Got Noise?
— Roy Olsen
Some operators of the 800 series have reported noise in the cabin. After some investigation, Raytheon discovered that this noise was coming from the wing to fuselage mounts. To remedy this situation Raytheon came up with Mod 3165. This mod calls for the installation of oversized bolts and spherical bearings in the forward mounts, and oversized bolts in the aft mounts. Most of the later model 800 and XPs have this mod installed. Raytheon has designed kits to replace the bolts and bearing at the time the aircraft is due the wing to fuselage mount inspection. The kit allows operators to try different size bolts and bearing to get the closest fit. The remainder of the kit can then be returned to Raytheon and they charge only for those items used. Plan ahead! The waiting time for this kit could be as long as three months.
Raytheon Light Kit
— Roy Olsen
Raytheon has created a kit to replace the landing and taxi light bulbs. What are the benefits?
- These bulbs are much brighter than the original bulbs.
- These bulbs have a life span of over 5,000 hours!
- Perhaps the best point is that these bulbs create little heat. In fact, I held my hand about three inches from the front of these lights and could barely feel any heat. This low temperature will radically extend the life of your landing light lenses, especially if you frequently experience long taxis and holds at night.
Raytheon says this installation is relatively simple. Mounting the lights and control box requires only the removal of the light lenses. The kit retails for $7995.00. However, kits ordered between May 16 and June 15 will go for $7195.50. Call Duncan Aviation or Raytheon today for more information about the benefit of these lights.
