Throttle Cable Maintenance

Throttle cable and linkage maintenance is very important to ensure optimum, trouble-free performance from your JT15. Worn components, lack of lubrication and incorrect rigging can all lead to nagging problems in the cockpit and possibly an unscheduled maintenance visit on the day of a big trip. Some symptoms of throttle cable and linkage problems include stiff throttles, high or low idle speeds, throttle splits, slow starts, engine synchronizer trouble and inability to make daily performance requirements. In most cases, these problems are inexpensive to repair and can be completed with very little downtime. Be sure to follow appropriate maintenance manual procedures when making rigging adjustments and use approved lubricants to avoid future problems.

Lightning Strike Reminder

Spring and Summer are the seasons for lightning strikes on airplanes. If you suspect your aircraft has been subjected to a lightning strike, a visual inspection of the engine inlet is required. If evidence of arcing (pitting, black scarring) is present on the inlet cone or LP Compressor (fan) blades, remove the engine from service. Return the engine to an approved overhaul facility for lightning strike Special Conditions inspection.

Exhaust Nozzle Classing

When installing an engine on your JT15D-powered aircraft, be sure to check the nozzle class information on the engine data plate and ensure that a correct cold or hot nozzle is installed with the engine. Each JT15D has its own nozzle class. Keep this in mind when installing a rental engine or an engine that has been overhauled or repaired. Incorrect nozzles can cause a wide variety of performance problems.
