King Air Proper Dynamic Balancing Extends Life of Aircraft

Proper dynamic balancing of the props on a King Air is an excellent way to extend the life of the overall aircraft; to ensure that acceptable methods were used, always inspect the attached weights. Duncan Aviation technicians have seen King Airs come in with issues related to the dynamic balancing. We have seen temporary weights attached to a spinner attach screw inadvertently left on as well as stacks that exceed the allowable amount in one location.
In addition, unless there are instructions from the OEM, you will need FAA form 337 if weights are installed as a minor airframe alteration. Certain types of dynamic balance equipment can also be used to measure a wider spectrum of vibrations and isolate specific engine components for further troubleshooting.
