Throughout the year, Duncan Aviation’s Lincoln facility has been significantly increasing its structures repair area. With eight official members on its “Structures Team,” Duncan can perform unlimited repairs on virtually all business class aircraft.

Do You Have An MPI Due In 1999?

Duncan Aviation will give away coupons worth $4,000 at the NBAA this year to six operators who have a TFE 731 engine with an MPI coming due between now and the end of 1999. The coupons will be redeemable at either the Lincoln or Battle Creek locations. For MSP or JSSI customers, the coupon can be used for work performed in conjunction with an MPI. (One registration per event is allowed.)

Changing Owners

TFE731-2 To -2C Engine Upgrades Available

AlliedSignal has announced that the -2C engine upgrade program is now available for Learjet 31/35/36 operators. The upgrade, which includes the new Nl Digital Electronic Engine Control (Nl DEEC), has received a supplemental type certificate (STC) for Learjet 31/35/36 models.

Similar to the -3C/-3D upgrade programs, the -2C upgrade incorporates more robust components from higher thrust versions of the TFE73 1 engine family, thereby increasing ITT limits and extending maintenance intervals. The upgrade also includes the new Nl DEEC for improved reliability, simplified power management and built-in Engine Condition Trend Monitoring (ECTM).

Operational benefits include an ITT increase on Takeoff from 860°to 879°C, on Climb from 832°to 866°C and on Cruise from 793° to 827°C. The -2C also has a new fan speed schedule actively managed by the Nl DEEC allowing pilots to advance the thrust levers fully forward on takeoff without concern of exceeding maximum engine parameters.

Save Money! Monitor Your Starter

Learjet 30 & 50 series operators can save money if the operation of your engine starter 71Bl-23A is monitored. If engine starts take too long and your engine spool up is a slow process, the starter may be damaged. To prevent further damage and added repairs, the starter should be removed and checked.

These starters have a tendency to arc between the brushes and the armature commutator, causing a reduced conductive path for the high amperage required to start the engine. If detected early, the armature commutator can be reconditioned and the brushes resanded to the commutator thus restoring the conductive path from the brushes to the armature commutator. If the problem is not caught early enough, damage will occur to the armature that will require rewinding or replacement of the armature.
