Flap Switch Adjustment
— Dave Schiver
Have you had chattering when adjusting the flap switches on your Learjet equipped with the Gated Flaps with Pre-Select? There is an easier way. Remember, never use the Aux Hydraulic pump due to the lim- ited duty cycle. (If you ever had, you only did it once!) When hooking up your Hydraulic Test Stand (what non-Tech Pub writers call a mule) turn the pressure down to 400 P.S.I. This will allow slow and precise movements of the flaps so that the correct settings on your flap switches can be achieved. Also remember that you can use your Stall Warning Test Box for a visual indication for the 3, 13, and 25-degree switches. Another note is to always check the settings with the flaps being retracted! To make it even easier, fabricate a test switch. With the Flap Handle in the full down position, pin "A" of the plug going to the flap control valve is power and pin "C" is ground. Double- check your wiring prints to verify that this is correct for your aircraft.
Cabin Communications
— Clark Gordon
Starting September 1, AT&T Wireless (Claricom) will no longer offer air-to-ground telephony (flight fone) service to general avia- tion aircraft. The telephony system hardware was formally sold by Bendix/King as the Flight Fone 800, FF800. Though there are no direct "plug and play" replacements for this system there are several alternatives, such as Teledyne MagnaStar, AirCell AGT.02, Aero M or Aero I, Iridium, AirSat 1.
Some questions to consider when selecting a replacement are: Is one independent channel enough or are two channels required? Is domestic coverage (North America) enough or will you require interna- tional coverage? Will you want the new system to interface with an existing system, SatCom, Universal Un-Link, AFIS, etc.?
Duncan Aviation can help you select a replacement system that best fits your flight mission and communications needs.
Unapproved Pilot Chutes
— Dave Schiver
Be aware that there are unapproved pilot chute assemblies that have made it to the field. Initially only five pilot chutes were known to have made it to the field before they were recalled. However, we at Duncan Aviation have recently seen two additional unapproved chutes. They are easily iden- tified by the relaxed length of the spring. It is approximately five feet long and about a foot in diameter. If you have one of these unapproved chutes, be aware that Duncan Aviation cannot inspect and return these units to ser- vice. The approved pilot chute P/N is 6600180-12 (Vendor P/N C-11413-3).
DC Generator Authorization
— Chris Gress
Duncan Aviation has been named as an Authorized Overhaul & Service Center for Honeywell International (Formerly Bendix) DC Generators (M/N 30B107-19A and P/N 6608201-9) utilized on Learjet Models 35/36 & 55. This authorization allows Duncan Aviation to sell, repair and overhaul all Honeywell International Generator 30B107-( ) products, parts and the components them- selves.
Duncan Aviation and Honeywell together are evaluating and devel- oping solutions to increase the relia- bility and to lower operatating costs of these generators. Duncan Aviation has repaired and over- hauled the units for years and has serviced thousands of these Honeywell International (Bendix) DC Generators. This experience will be very valuable for developing solu- tions for this unit.
Questions About Mandates?
