Avionics Loaner Policy Adjustment
— Rick Whitesell
For more than 30 years, Duncan Aviation’s free loaner program has kept customers flying when their avionics and instrument units required repair or overhaul. During these many years, costs associated with operating business aircraft have soared. Duncan Aviation loaners have remained free and will continue to be free; however, a slight adjustment is warranted.
Since inception of the free loaners program, recertification of every loaner unit returned to Duncan Aviation has been required. Duncan Aviation has always absorbed the cost of returning loaners to service during the recertification process, but now we are asking customers to help shoulder the cost of returning these units back to original manufacturer specifications. Recertification fees will range from between $50 and $200 depending on the time it takes to recertify a particular unit. If you have questions about the recertification fee, please contact Rick Whitesell at 800.LOANERS.
An FMS Upgrade for the Future
— Joe Spring
Be sure to do your research when considering an FMS upgrade to make sure that the equipment you purchase now will meet the future requirements of CNS/ATM flight environments. Will your current FMS comply with FAA AC90-100 and how will it affect your capabilities?
Evaluate RNP/ANP requirements,WAAS, LAAS, graphics display options and two-way Datalink capabilities for any FMS you are considering. For questions, contact Joe Spring at 800.525.2376.
ICA Revision for Learjet RVSM STCs
— Dave Schiver
Please be aware that Learjet has revised the Instruction for Continued Airworthiness (ICA) for 35/36 RVSM (AMI-STC-LJ3536) to Rev. “F” and the 55 RVSM ICA (AMI-STC-LJ55) to Rev. “G”. These revisions remove some requirements for the 24-month recertification. First, the skin contour check is removed completely except in cases of damage repair. Also, the requirement for having Learjet technicians only perform the probe alignment checks is removed.
Please note that in order for the operator and service provider to take advantage of the new revision, Rev. “F” for 35/36 operators and Rev. “G” for 55 operators, the revision must be incorporated and approved in the operator’s RVSM manual. This also applies to aircraft that have had the Learjet RVSM STC and Avcon STCs preformed, such as Delta Fins, Extended Tip Tanks, etc. through revision “C” on AMI-STC-ALJ3536. The straight 31 model STC ICA has not yet been revised.
Another common question/concern is in regard to paint. According to the ICAs, no skin contour check is required after paint. However, you must ensure that there are no paint runs in the RVSM critical area.
A final note on this subject is stall warning computer calibration. Service Bulletin (S/B) 35/36-27-43 calibrates the stall warning computer to the FC-530 settings for aircraft with FC-200 autopilots after Rosemount probes are installed for RVSM. The stall plates will have to be re-marked after this S/B is complied with.
