Rob Anderson, Duncan Aviation Airframe Team Leader

As a young man, Rob Anderson grew up in Centralia, Illinois. At the age of eight, his grandmother told him a story that changed his life. She told about his grandfather, Lowell Alexis Anderson, who was killed flying as a gunner on a B-25 Bomber during the Battle of the Coral Sea in World War II. He was killed before his son (Rob’s father) was born, making the ultimate sacrifice for his country. The story of his grandfather and the B-25 ignited an aviation fascination within Rob.
After graduating from high school, Rob went into the Army working on Chinook Helicopters and training maintenance test pilots as a flight engineer. He tested out for his A&P license in 1992 after leaving the Army. Rob came to Duncan Aviation in 1998 and discovered an entire company filled with aviation professionals who were experts in their field and totally dedicated to delivering quality. “I quickly realized that what I knew paled in comparison.” But what impressed him the most was how helpful and willing everyone was to teach and coach him to become successful, not just his manager or Team Leader, everyone. Rob still uses that mentoring mentality as an Airframe Team Leader. He strives to treat others with that same professionalism and patience.
It means a lot to Rob and his team to represent Duncan Aviation with quality work. Having a Duncan Aviation entry in the logbooks means the project was done right. To meet and exceed a customer’s expectations, Rob considers the customer a partner. “I want to get them involved in the project at all points to understand how they use their aircraft and what issues they face daily.” He takes the time to listen and figure out what needs to be done to get the project seen through to the end. “The whole process works better when we’re involved together. If it is important to the customer, it’s important to us.” He contributes much of his teams’ success and the success of every Duncan Aviation team to the freedoms given to get the job done right. “I am totally empowered to do what’s necessary to fix the aircraft and take care of the customer. That is extremely valuable to me and to our customers.”
Rob and his team also consider Duncan Aviation’s Airframe Tech Reps as partners. They use the Tech Reps as a resource to locate hard-to-find information and act as liaisons with OEMs. In addition to assisting with difficult troubleshooting situations, Tech Reps are available to train mechanics on associated aircraft systems. Duncan Aviation’s commitment to the Tech Rep program demonstrates a commitment to delivering a quality project every time. That’s a core value and it hasn’t changed from the moment Rob came on board.
Rob Anderson’s fascination with aviation was sparked by a story once told by his grandmother; a story that still encourages him to seek out more information about the Battle of Coral Sea and the B-25 Bomber that carried his grandfather. The remains of the bomber are still on Daugo Island off the southern coast of Papua New Guinea. Someday. Rob hopes to travel there.
