Scott Shefke: Challenger Tech Rep

Scott Shefke brings a unique perspective to business aviation. He is a skillful instrument- & multi-rated pilot with a commercial ticket. At the same time, he is an experienced aircraft mechanic with an A&P and an associated degree in Applied Science. It is this unique mix of experiences that makes Scott one of the most sought after technical experts in business aviation.
As a Duncan Aviation Tech Rep, Scott has been instrumental in developing Duncan Aviation’s Challenger program and offerings, becoming fully knowledgeable in the Maintenance Steering Group (MSG) philosophy of maintenance. It is through hands-on troubleshooting and exploration that Scott has educated himself, Challenger mechanics and Challenger customers about the highly complex and dynamic systems of the aircraft.
Scott is continuously looking for ways to improve himself and the Duncan Aviation Challenger team. With persistence, he has been able to resolve many issues and offer new capabilities and services to Challenger operators. It is through this methodical research that Scott developed a fully-portable flap systems test bench that will test, diagnose and provide immediate feedback. This system has received positive reviews and has had a favorable impact on many operators. With this new tooling and technique, Duncan Aviation’s accuracy in diagnosing intermittent flap system anomalies has increased significantly, reducing downtime, expense and frustration for operators.
Others in the business aviation have sought out Scott and his knowledge of the Challenger aircraft. He sits on the Challenger Advisory Committee at Bombardier reviewing fleet and maintenance issues reported by operators working to improve the Challenger aircraft. He has flown all across the United States to regional PAMA chapters presenting the curriculum and program he researched and created for an FAA-approved course in Damage Tolerance.
In the future, Scott’s goal is to continually develop the Duncan Aviation Challenger program supporting and educating techs to be independent and confident in their work to be the best they can. He understands that it takes more than a grease gun and pliers to be a valuable tech; it takes an increased technical knowledge with computer skills and a desire to continually learn.
