Important Clarification From AlliedSignal Concerning Approved Oils For TFE731 Engines

This communication is to provide clarification as to approved oil for the TFE731 engine and the effect on MSP coverage and carbon seal warranty.

For the TFE731-2 through-5 family, all of the oils listed in the Light Maintenance Manual (LMM) are approved. Third generation oil is not required to maintain carbon seal warranty or MSP coverage. However, the preferred oil is the third generation oil due, to the increased resistance to the formation of coke.

For the TFE731-20/-40/-60 family, the LMM specifies third generation oil and therefore it must be used to maintainwarranty and MSP coverage.

AlliedSignal is in the process of updating Service Information Letter F731-82 to provide clarification of this important issue.
