TFE731 Spring 1999
Duncan Aviation Delivers First TFE731-2-2C Engines
On January 22, 1999, in conjunction with AlliedSignal Phoenix Repair and Overhaul (R&O), Duncan Aviation delivered its first pair of upgraded TFE731-2-2C engines. This was the first set of -2C engines delivered to a customer following conversion by AlliedSignal Phoenix R&O. These engines are fitted to one of Boeing’s corporate Lear 35’s.
In celebration of this event, representatives of AlliedSignal Phoenix were on hand to make this delivery along with Duncan Aviation. Phoenix R&O presented individual plaques for Boeing and Duncan to mark the occasion. On hand from AlliedSignal Phoenix to make the presentation were Mike Livolsi, Mel Drummond, Brian Causer and Jack Lee, TFE731-2C program manager. Duncan was represented by Arnie Berry, Turbine Engine Customer Service; Ray Singh, Turbine Engine Service Center Manager; Jon Dodson and Cecil Sloan, Turbine Engine Service Sales.
A test flight on the aircraft was performed with outstanding results and rave reviews by the crew. The aircraft attained altitudes it could not routinely operate at before the upgrade. The engines arrived from Phoenix with test cell margins in excess of 50 degrees fahrenheit and several hundred RPM positive N2 margin.
Since the introduction of this program, we believed it would prove to be one of the finest AlliedSignal after-market engine upgrade programs ever produced. A few of the major benefits of the upgrade include the replacement of the solid HPT blade with the TFE731-5 air cooled HP Turbine blades, increased climb and cruise temperature limits and an extended 2,100 hour MPI interval. Falcon 10 operators will be able to enjoy these benefits as soon as the service bulletin and STC are approved.
Duncan Aviation and AlliedSignal Phoenix R&O have jointly completed many engine upgrades including the -3C, -3D and -5B. Our shops continue to work closely together on scheduled and unscheduled Compressor section repairs and CZI’s.
If you have questions, or would like to receive more information about any of these exciting engine programs, please contact Jon Dodson in LNK at 800.228.4277 or Dan Arrick in BTL at 800.525.2376.
2C Upgrades
When an MSP operator’s engine has a scheduled or unscheduled CZI, it may be upgraded to the 2C configuration. Total cost at that time is $79,500 for the 2C kit. MSP is responsible for everything else regarding the engine.
At this time, operators have two options: The first is to pay for the kit, the second is to Co-OPP the kit. What the conversion optional payment plan (Co-OPP) does is provide an option at the time of conversion that allows an MSP operator to incorporate the kit cost into the MSP hourly rate for the next 2,100 hours or five years, whichever occurs first.
If the aircraft is sold prior to the 2,100 hours or five years, the balance must be paid. A similar Co- OPP plan applies to the TFE731- 3D upgrade.
For additional info about the Co-OPP program and how it applies to your aircraft, please contact Jon Dodson in LNK at 800.228.4277 or Dan Arrick in BTL at 800.525.2376.
