TFE731 Spring 2002
N1 DEEC Software Upgrade
— Craig Bohling
Service Bulletin TFE731-76- 3069 provides a new software version for the Falcon 10/100/50 N1 DEECs. This upgrade improves N1 DEEC fault detection, surge valve control and uncommanded acceleration detection. All N1 DEECs in the aircraft must be updated at the same time, different versions of N1 DEECS are not allowed to operate in the aircraft. Service bulletin TFE731-76- 3068 rev 3 for the Learjet 31/35/36 application, scheduled for release before the end of the second quarter, will allow Honeywell certified personnel to upgrade N1 DEECs with the new software version.
Duncan Aviation is authorized by Honeywell to upgrade N1 DEECs to the latest software version.

Breather Valve
— Jeff Witt
The 3071564-X/3075323-X air breather valve is used on the accessory gearbox of the TFE-731 engine to regulate gearbox pressure. The valve functions to maintain internal pressure of the gearbox at prescribed values for all altitudes at which the engine is operated.
Over the past several years the air breather valve has had three service bulletins issued against it and one complete component maintenance manual reissue. With Service Bulletin TFE731-79-3055 dated May 1994, AlliedSignal addressed the "nuisance" problem of oil leakage from the breather valve seal area. A new seal was designed incorporating a Teflon single-lip sealing element with hydrodynamic threads on the sealing surface to direct oil away from the sealing element. As a result of compliance with this service bulletin the breather valve would be reidentified from a 3071564-8 to 3075323-2 and from 3071564-9 to 3075323-3.
Service Bulletin TFE731-72-3605 issued May 1996, provided for the installation of an air-oil separator and a new air breather valve assembly (p/n 3075323-3) for the accessory drive gearbox.
Service Bulletin TFE731-72-3615RWK issued February 1997, allows for the rework of air breather valve 3071564-7/-8 to 3071564-9 used in 3075323-3-air breather valve assembly. This is accomplished by installation of the new lip seal and recalibrating in accordance with revision 4 of the Component Maintenance Manual.
Duncan Aviation's Accessory Shop has the ability to Repair, Overhaul or Modify the 3071564-/3075323- Air Breather Valve in as little as two days. For additional information concerning our accessory capabilities, please contact Chris Gress at 402.479.1664 or 800.228.4277.
