Duncan Aviation Announces Scholarship Winners

LINCOLN, NEB. — Duncan Aviation is pleased to announce the names of 10 recipients of the 2004 Duncan Aviation Scholarship program. The recipients, who have at least one parent who is a full-time Duncan Aviation employee, will each receive $2,000 a year for up to four years of continuous enrollment at an accredited two- or four-year college or post-secondary vocational school. The money may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or room and board.
Recipients were chosen by an independent selection committee who reviewed their grade point averages, ACT scores, class ranking, citizenship, activities, leadership skills and career goals. The winners include the following:
- Wendy Dawnae Austin, daughter of Joe & Sherin Austin,
of Portage, Michigan
- Jayson Batenhorst, son of Bryan Batenhorst & Pam Robertson,
of Lincoln, Nebraska
- Dena Renae Bradley, daughter of Lawrence & Teresa Bradley,
of Crescent, Oklahoma
- Tanya Brettmann, daughter of Russell & Carol Brettmann,
of Hickman, Nebraska
- Kara Lynn Garrett, daughter of Doyle & Pamela Garrett,
of Seward, Nebraska
- Christine Harpster, daughter of Gary & Susan Harpster,
of Ashland, Nebraska
- Wyatt Bristow Kingery, son of Craig & Marcia Kingery,
of Lincoln, Nebraska
- Ryan McCullough, son of Michael & Cheryl McCullough,
of Lincoln, Nebraska
- Robert D. Morgan, son of Kletus & Beth Morgan,
of Lincoln, Nebraska
- Kati Shoemaker, daughter of Marc & Teresa Shoemaker,
of Lincoln, Nebraska
Austin will graduate from Heritage Christian Academy in June 2004. She is secretary of the student council and participates in drama and choir. She is active in her church youth group, has taken several mission trips and tutors others after school.
Batenhorst attends Lincoln Northeast High School and will graduate in June 2004. He is a member of the National Honor Society and Junior Achievement, and is a Lincoln Jaycee volunteer.
Bradley attends Guthrie High School and will graduate in May 2004. She is a member of the softball and track & field teams, the National Honor Society and the Future Farmers of America. She is also active in 4-H, Camp Joy Youth group and Meridian Community Church.
Brettman attends Norris High School and will graduate in May 2004. She participated on the golf team and in marching/concert band. She is also active with 4-H, clogging and her church.
Garrett attends Seward High School and will graduate in May 2004. She is a member of the Future Farmers of America, the journalism/yearbook staff, the National Honor Society and the softball team. She is also an active member of Faith Lutheran Church, participates in summer softball and is part of the Adopt-A-Shelf program at Seward Public Library.
Harpster graduated in May from Ashland-Greenwood High School. She is involved in band, cheerleading, chorus, swing choir, National Honor Society and is class President.
Kingery graduated in June 2003 from Lincoln Southeast High School. He has travelled extensively since graduation and will begin on an archaelogy/Anthropology degree at Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa, this fall.
McCullough is a senior at Southwest High School and will graduate in June 2004. He has been involved as a volunteer at Ambassador Nursing Home and the Matt Talbot Kitchen.
Morgan will graduate in May 2004 from Parkview Christian High School. He played basketball and is involved in choir, Campus Life, and the Youth Group. He also assisted second graders at Parkview Christian School as a reading assistant.
Shoemaker is a senior at Parkview Christian School and will graduate in May 2004. She is President of the student government, played basketball, is active as a Sunday School teacher, in the Youth Group and volunteered to read to second graders at Parkview Christian Elementary School.
Duncan Aviation’s scholarship program is open only to dependents of full-time Duncan Aviation employees.
Duncan Aviation is an aircraft service provider with 1,800 employees supporting the aviation needs of government and business operators and other service providers. These services include airframe, engine, avionics installations, interior and paint completions/modifications, avionics/instrument and accessory/propeller repair/overhaul and parts support. Complete service facilities are located in Lincoln, Neb., and Battle Creek, Mich. Additional locations include 21 satellite avionics facilities located throughout the United States, 20 government C-23 contract locations, a line service/regional support operation in Kalamazoo, Mich., and Lincoln-based Parts Support Services, a division that sells and consigns general aviation parts to aircraft operators and service organizations worldwide.
