Duncan Aviation Certifies and Installs Universal EFI-890R in Challenger 600
April 22, 2005
LINCOLN, NEB. — Duncan Aviation's Glass Box Project recently completed certification of the Universal EFI-890R in a Bombardier Challenger 600. This marks the first delivery of the EFI-890R to an end-user. This certification builds on the company's successful August 2004 installation of the EFI-890R in the Challenger 601-3A owned by Universal Avionics' parent company. The Challenger 600/601 EFI-890R Glass Box Project was researched, developed, certified and completed by Duncan Aviation's facility in Lincoln, Neb. Upon receipt of TSO, Duncan Aviation will add Universal Avionics' Vision One synthetic vision to the STC. Duncan Aviation will also add WSI NOWrad downlink satellite weather to the aircraft in July 2005.
The Universal EFI-890R system displays critical flight information on four 8x9-inch AMLCDs (Active Matrix Liquid Crystal Display) and an optional MFD-640 Multi-Function Display (MFD). The Universal EFI-890R delivers primary flight information and additional features not available in older EFIS and electromechanical instruments. Systems like the EFI-890R increase the value of older aircraft, add safety, and integrate the latest technology available in aircraft fresh off the assembly line. The EFI-890R is capable of displaying TAWS, TCAS, AHARS, weather and navigational information in addition to the technology required for CNS/ATM.
"We are pleased to be the first to make the EFI-890R technology available to the entire CL600 and CL601 fleet," says Gary Harpster, Duncan Aviation Avionics Sales Representative. "The Universal EFI-890R was chosen for this Challenger to breathe new life and add safety to the desirable large cabin aircraft. As expected, the EFI-890 increases operational capability, allows for upgrades to keep pace with regulatory and technological advances in avionics and decreases aircraft weight."
This completion is part of Duncan Aviation's Glass Box Project, a focused plan to keep classic aircraft operating far into the 21st century. This plan reduces downtime and risk via thorough preplanning with customers, the FAA, avionics and airframe OEMs, and our in-house engineering team. The Duncan Aviation Glass Box Project is an industry leader in avionics upgrades with systems including Universal's EFI-890R, Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21, Honeywell's EPIC CDS/R and others on the horizon. The Glass Box Project currently has three additional aircraft in the certification process.
