Duncan Aviation Announces First EPIC CDS/R Upgrade for Hawker 800A
November 7, 2005
LINCOLN, NEB. — Building on the success of the Glass Box Project, Duncan Aviation announces another first with the installation of the EPIC CDS/R in the Hawker 800A. The SPZ-8000 platform in the Honeywell-equipped Hawker 800A is identical to the platform in the Falcon 900, CL601-3A, as well as many other aircraft. This installation and certification is the bedrock for applications in those other aircraft.
"By installing three large format (8" x 10") displays in the Hawker and eliminating the three existing Symbol Generators and five displays, we can finally deliver what operators have all been asking for—charts and satellite weather on the panel," said Gary Harpster, Avionics Sales Representative. "As our vertical separations have decreased and our skies have become more crowded, situational awareness has become the key safety factor in business aviation. Whether you're flying into an unfamiliar airport in a mountainous region or one that you've been into ten times this year, being able to see your position on the displayed navigational chart goes a long way towards keeping you and your passengers in the safety zone."
Satellite weather in the cockpit also provides the benefits of advance planning for weather contingencies, time savings and fuel savings. Hawker 800A operators will be among the first to discover all of the benefits the Honeywell CDS/R retrofit has to offer. Duncan Aviation is now accepting input dates for installation of this system in Honeywell-equipped aircraft. Call Gary Harpster at 800.228.4277 or 402.475.2611 for more details, or visit booth number 216 at NBAA in Orlando.
Benefits of Honeywell's CDS/R include:
- Enhanced Situational Awareness
- Enables strategic route planning

- Reduces maintenance costs and downtime by reducing older style electromechanical instruments.
- Increased redundancy to provide better dispatch ability
- Increased reliability with the substantial reduction of the line replaceable units (LRU)
- Designed for Flexibility and efficiency
- Scaleable system architecture
- Flexible interface design integrates with legacy systems
- Reduced weight, wiring and power requirements
This installation is part of Duncan Aviation's Glass Box Project. Introduced last year at NBAA, the project is Duncan Aviation's focused effort to make available the latest in the emerging flat-panel retrofit technology. Reduced downtimes, risk and investment are being achieved with thorough preplanning with customers, the FAA, avionics and airframe OEMs and our in-house engineering team. With the Glass Box Project, Duncan Aviation is leading the AMLCD (Active Matrix Liquid Crystal Display) avionics retrofit movement into several airframes with systems from several manufactures.
Duncan Aviation is an aircraft service provider with 1,800 employees supporting the aviation needs of government and business operators and other service providers. These services include airframe, engine, component repair and overhaul, avionics installations, interior and paint completions/modifications and parts support.
