BATTLE CREEK, MI. - Governor Jennifer Granholm visited Duncan Aviation-Battle Creek on May 12 for a signing ceremony. The ceremony commemorated an amendment to tax law in Michigan that benefits the customers of the state's largest privately-owned aviation service company, Duncan Aviation.
The amendment provides for a waiver from all sales tax on parts for aviation services performed in Michigan for customers who do not reside or base their aircraft in Michigan. The amendment also provides a waiver from taxes associated with the purchase of an aircraft in Michigan for those who do not reside or base their aircraft in Michigan. To be eligible for this exemption, the customer must remove their aircraft from the state upon completion of the work performed.
Governor Granholm met with the leaders of Duncan Aviation, including Chairman J. Robert Duncan. She also toured Duncan Aviation's facility, which is currently in the midst of a 123,000-square-foot, 18 million dollar expansion.
"It is appropriate that this ceremony is taking place in our newly opened service hangar in the middle of an employee appreciation lunch. This tax law change will allow us to take full advantage of this expansion, which was made possible by the hard work of our employees," said J. Robert Duncan, Chairman of Duncan Aviation. "Our customers regularly tell us that it is our technicians that make Duncan Aviation stand out from the competitive crowd. This lunch is just a small recognition of all the hard work they do to make Duncan Aviation a success."
