Duncan Aviation Scholarship Winners From Nebraska, Michigan, Washington and Texas

LINCOLN, NEB. — Duncan Aviation is pleased to announce the names of 12 recipients of the 2007 Duncan Aviation Scholarship program. The recipients, who have at least one parent who is a full-time Duncan Aviation employee, will each receive $2,000 a year for up to four years of continuous enrollment at an accredited two- or four-year college or post-secondary vocational school. The money may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or room and board.
Recipients were chosen by an independent selection committee who reviewed their grade point averages, ACT scores, class ranking, citizenship, activities, leadership skills and career goals. The winners include the following:
- Joshua Bennett, son of Tom and Sue Bennett, of Lincoln, Nebraska
- Samantha Brandt, daughter of Sven & Paula Brandt, of Lincoln, Nebraska
- Scott Brugman, son of Clifford & Collen Brugman, of Lincoln, Nebraska
- Bryce Danz, son of David & Jackie Hill, of Auburn, Washington
- Nicole Davis, daughter of Bryan Davis and Kelli Catchings, of Forney, Texas
- Nick Fernandez, son of Tony and Jacqueline Fernandez, of Lincoln, Nebraska
- Sadie Massey, daughter of Tom and Rhonda Massey, of Lincoln, Nebraska
- Bethany Mertens, daughter of Mike and Michelle Mertens, of Lincoln, Nebraska
- Catherine Pope, daughter of Mark and Kelly Pope, of Kalamazoo, Michigan
- Elizabeth Porter, daughter of Philip and Cynthia Porter, of Lincoln, Nebraska
- Steven Svoboda, son of Jim and Maria Svoboda, of Rising City, Nebraska
- Jessica Zetah, daughter of James and Cindy Zetah, of Seward, Nebraska
Bennett attends Lincoln East High School and will graduate in June 2007. He plans to attend Southeast Community College and study fire protection technology. Throughout high school, he was a member of the football and swimming teams. He was also an assistant swim coach his senior year.
Brandt attends Lincoln Northeast and plans to attend the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Throughout high school, she was active in volleyball, basketball, track and field, cross country and music. She was also an active member of 4-H and her church youth group.
Brugman attends Lincoln Northeast and plans to attend the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in the fall. Throughout high school, he was active in band, cross country, and track and field. He has been involved in several volunteer activities including mission trips to Denver and New Mexico.
Danz currently attends Thomas Jefferson High School and will graduate in June 2007. He plans to attend Pacific Lutheran University in Washington. Throughout high school, he was involved in National Honor Society, Speech and Debate, and wrestling. He was active in both the Boy Scouts of America as well as his church youth group.
Davis is a recent graduate of Forney High School. She plans to attend Hardin Simmons in Abilene to study creative writing. While in high school, she was a section leader in the band and the founder/president of the poetry club. She was also involved in many ministry activities.
Fernandez attends Lincoln Southwest and will graduate in June. He then plans to attend the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. In high school, he was a member of several clubs including the Japanese, Card, Strategy Gaming, and Unicef clubs. He has volunteered at the Salvation Army and the Lincoln City Library.
Massey recently graduated from Pius X High School and plans to attend the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Throughout high school, she has been involved in cheerleading, band, choir and National Honor Society. She received the Presidential Service Award at her High School for completing more than 100 hours of community service.
Mertens is a recent graduate of Parkview High School. Her future plans include attending The Colorado Institute of Art in Denver while obtaining a Graphic Arts degree. During high school, she participated in volleyball, basketball, track, cheerleading, speech and choir. She also helped coach middle school volleyball and YMCA basketball.
Pope attends Comstock High School in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and will graduate in June 2007. She plans to attend Columbus State University in Ohio studying Speech/Language Pathology. While in high school, she was a member of the band and color squad. She was also a volunteer at the hospital and American Red Cross.
Porter attends Lincoln High School and will graduate in June 2007. Throughout her high school career, she has been a member of the basketball and golf teams, as well as theatre. She plans to attend the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and study Design.
Svoboda is a recent graduate from David City High School. He plans to attend Crieghton University and study Pre-Med and Psychology. While at David City, he was a member of the football and track and field teams. He was also an active volunteer with the American Red Cross.
Zetah recently graduated from Seward High and plans to attend Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Throughout high school, she was involved in National Honor Society, Key Club, choir, and volleyball. She was also involved in several community services activities including Habitat for Humanity, Hands on Housing, and many more.
Duncan Aviation’s scholarship program is open only to dependents of full-time Duncan Aviation employees. Duncan Aviation is an aircraft service provider with more than 1,900 employees supporting the aviation needs of government and business operators and other service providers. These services include airframe, engine, avionics installations, interior and paint completions/modifications, avionics/instrument and accessory/propeller repair/overhaul and parts support. Complete service facilities are located in Lincoln, Neb., and Battle Creek, Mich. Additional locations include satellite avionics facilities located throughout the United States and Lincoln-based Parts, Components & Services, a division that reapirs, exchanges and consigns avionics, accessories, instruments and general aviation parts to aircraft operators and service organizations worldwide.
