Duncan Aviation Encourages Quick Action To Take Advantage of Economic Stimulus Act
March 31, 2008
LINCOLN, NEB — Duncan Aviation encourages operators to act now to reap the benefits of the new Economic Stimulus Act. The Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 includes provisions that may benefit companies that purchase aircraft or upgrade existing aircraft with new equipment through accelerated depreciation. This Act increases the potential first year depreciation deduction from 20% to 60%.
In order to qualify, the property must generally be acquired by the Taxpayer after December 31, 2007, and prior to January 1, 2009. One important caveat: this only applies if no written binding contract for the acquisition was in effect prior to January 1, 2008.
“We feel this accelerated depreciation benefit will add heat to an already active avionics modifications and interior completions market,” says John Slieter, Vice President of Sales. “We encourage our clients to book early for any planned work for 2008 to secure the best schedules and take advantage of significant tax savings.”
For example: If an aircraft owner acquires new avionics equipment for their used aircraft in 2008 in the amount of $1,000,000, a 50% bonus depreciation may be available plus 20% of the remaining depreciation, resulting in a total first-year depreciation amount of $600,000. The owner should always consult a tax consultant for guidance concerning this benefit.
