Duncan Aviation Announces Scholarship Winners

LINCOLN, NEB. — Duncan Aviation is pleased to announce the names of 12 recipients of the 2008 Duncan Aviation Scholarship program. The recipients, who have at least one parent who is a full-time Duncan Aviation employee, will each receive $2,000 a year for up to four years of continuous enrollment at an accredited two- or four-year college or post-secondary vocational school. The money may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or room and board.
Recipients were chosen by an independent selection committee who reviewed their grade point averages, ACT scores, class ranking, citizenship, activities, leadership skills and career goals. The winners include the following:
- Jason Budnick, son of Charles & Karen Budnick, of Battle Creek, Michigan
- Danielle Caler, daughter of Eric & Maria Caler, of Seward, Nebraska
- Josiah Fuchser, son of John & Marna Fuchser, of Malcolm, Nebraska
- Kelsey Kennell, daughter of Rick & Karen Kennell, of Lincoln, Nebraska
- Amber Kimsey, daughter of James & Lisa Kimsey, of Seward, Nebraska
- Brittney Kuhlman, daughter of David & Marsha Kuhlman, of Lincoln, Nebraska
- Sophie Lemka, daughter of Craig & Julie Lemka, of Lincoln, Nebraska
- Michael Ryan, son of Mark & Teresa Gifford, of Lincoln, Nebraska
- Melinda Sidebottom, daughter of Robert & Kathy Sidebottom, of Battle Creek, Michigan
- Mary Tollas, daughter of Jerry & Julie Tollas, of Otsego, Michigan
- Nicole Whitehead, daughter of Rod & Kim Whitehead, of Lincoln, Nebraska
- Heather Wilhelm, daughter of Curtis Wilhelm & Jennifer Morgan, of Elmwood, Nebraska
Budnick attends Marshall High School and plans to attend either Albion College or Western Michigan University. Throughout high school, he was active in baseball, business club and was head of his economy class human resource group. He was also an active member of his church youth group and volunteered for March of Dimes, junior achievement and adopt-a-highway.
Caler attends Seward High School and plans to attend Southeast Community College for nursing. Throughout high school, she was active in band, FCCLA, Key Club and class President on student council for two years. She also volunteered at Bryan LGH East this year.
Fuchser currently attends Parkview Christian and will graduate this month. He will further his education with a degree in Exercise Science. Throughout high school, he was involved in football, basketball and track.
Kennell attends Lincoln Southwest High School. She will attend Drury University in Springfield, MO, studying Psychology. While in high school, she was active in Key Club and also involved in many volunteer activites such as Habitat for Humanity, Juvenile Diabetes Walk, Relay for Life and multiple mission trips with her church.
Kimsey attends Seward High School and plans to further her education at Nebraska Wesleyan University in Exercise Science. In high school, she was active in softball, color guard and FCCLA. She has volunteered at the local food drives, sports events and for the VFW Auxillary breakfasts.
Kuhlman recently graduated from Lincoln Northeast High School and plans to attend Southeast Community College in Lincoln, NE. Throughout high school, she has been involved in basketball, FCA and track and field.
Lemka is a recent graduate of Lincoln Southwest High School. Her future plans include attending Southeast Community College. During high school, she participated in show choir, concert choir, friendship club and the future educators. She also helped at her local church and was a member of the Big Sisters/Big Brothers program.
Ryan attends Lincoln Southwest High School. He plans to attend the University of Nebraska in Lincoln with an education in Business Administration. While in high school, he was a member of band and choir. He was also involved in the asian caucus and the japanese club.
Sidebottom attends Lakeview High School and will graduate in June 2008. She plans to attend Western Michigan University with a degree in Education. Throughout her high school career, she has been a member of the theater arts and student mentoring.
Tollas is a recent graduate from Otsego High School. While at Otsego, she was a member of the soccer team and a team manager for the boys basketball team. She was also an active volunteer in her church and was a freshman mentor.
Whitehead attends Lincoln Northstar and will graduate in June 2008. She plans to attend the University of Nebraska, Lincoln with a degree in Dietetics. Throughout high school, she was involved in National Honor Society, volleyball, the science bowl and student council. She was also involved in several community services activities including Habitat for Humanity, Breast Cancer Awareness Walk and at the Belmont Recreation Center.
Wilhelm is a recent gradute of Bryan Community. She plans to attend Southeast Community College and study nursing. In her senior year, she helped raise awareness for autism, became a certified nursing assistant and was in the Bryan Community women’s group.
Duncan Aviation’s scholarship program is open only to dependents of full-time Duncan Aviation employees. Duncan Aviation is an aircraft service provider with 1,800 employees supporting the aviation needs of government and business operators and other service providers. These services include airframe, engine, avionics installations, interior and paint completions/modifications, avionics/instrument and accessory/propeller repair/overhaul and parts support. Complete service facilities are located in Lincoln, Neb., and Battle Creek, Mich. Additional locations include 21 satellite avionics facilities located throughout the United States.
