Duncan Aviation Announces Karen K. Duncan Scholarship Winners From Nebraska, Michigan and Illinois

LINCOLN, NEB. — Duncan Aviation is pleased to announce the names of 12 recipients of Duncan Aviation's 2009 Karen K. Duncan Scholarship program. The recipients, who have at least one parent who is a full-time Duncan Aviation employee, will each receive $2,000 a year for up to four years of continuous enrollment at an accredited two- or four-year college or post-secondary vocational school. The money may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or room and board.
Recipients were chosen by an independent selection committee who reviewed the students' grade point averages, ACT scores, class ranking, citizenship, activities, leadership skills and career goals. The winners include the following:
- Jacob Anderson, son of Craig & Billie Jo Anderson of Utica, Nebraska
- Timothy Brugman, son of Cliff & Colleen Brugman of Lincoln, Nebraska
- Cassandra Christensen, daughter of Rod & Teresa Christensen of Marshall, Michigan
- Erin Curran, daughter of Craig & Karla Curran of Lincoln, Nebraska
- Anthony Dreesen, son of Roman Dreesen & Lisa Ritnour of Lincoln, Nebraska
- Nick Harpster, son of Gary & Susan Harpster of Ashland, Nebraska
- Nicola LaCorte, daughter of Giuseppe & Cheryl LaCorte of Mokina, Illinois
- Patti Lewandowski, daughter of Paul & Mary Lewandowski of Lincoln, Nebraska
- Lauren Marr, daughter of Russ & Geri Marr of Lincoln, Nebraska
- Patrick O'Brien, son of Timothy & Cheryl O'Brien of Linwood, Nebraska
- Mallory Paxton, daughter of Paul & Dana Paxton of Lincoln, Nebraska
- Jaclyn Stenka, daughter of Scott & Cathy Stenka of Lincoln, Nebraska
Jacob Anderson is a graduate of Centennial Public High School in Utica. He was involved in many extra-curricular activities, including jazz band, swing choir, quiz bowl, cross country, track and field and Boy Scouts. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout and was a member of the Order of the Arrow. He will attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln this fall.
Timothy Brugman attends Lincoln Northeast High School and will graduate in June. He was involved in baseball, varsity jazz band and Youth Leadership Council. He will attend Southeast Community College in Lincoln this fall.
Cassandra Christensen will graduate in June from Olivet High School in Olivet, Michigan. She was involved in softball, student government, National Honor Society and was on the yearbook staff. She plans to attend Kellogg Community College in Battle Creek, Michigan, this fall.
Erin Curran graduated this May from Wahoo High School in Wahoo, Nebraska. She was involved in the student council, the National Honor Society, Spanish Club, cross country and track and field. She also participated in various volunteer activities throughout her high school career. This fall, she plans to begin studying exercise science and pre-physical therapy at the Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota.
Anthony Dreesen will graduate this June from Lincoln North Star High School in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was involved in the Math Club, the Science Olympiads and the National Honor Society. He plans to study computer science this fall at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Nick Harpster graduated in May from Ashland-Greenwood High School in Ashland, Nebraska. Some of his extra-curricular activities include football, basketball, track, baseball, chorus, band, student council and yearbook. He was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, American Lutheran Church Youth Group, Spanish Club and the Red Cross. This fall, he plans to attend either the University of Nebraska-Lincoln or Nebraska Wesleyan University.
Nicola LaCorte will graduate this June from Lincoln Way East High School in Frankfort, Illinois. She was active in Pi Sigma Pi, Latin Club and was a peer mentor. She plans to study accounting this fall at Loyola University in Chicago or Augustana University in Rock Island, Illinois.
Patti Lewandowski graduated in May from Pius X High School in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was involved in volleyball, track and choir. Her volunteer activities included serving at the Matt Talbot Kitchen, helping with Vacation Bible School, singing in two youth choirs and a mission trip to Chicago. This fall, she plans to attend Southeast Community College in Lincoln.
Lauren Marr graduated in January 2009 from Lincoln East High School. She was involved in cross country, ice hockey, track and field, DECA, Ecology Club, National Honor Society and the Young Democrats. Her volunteer activities included volunteering with the Lincoln Arts, helping a Legislature candidate campaign, and helping clean up the inner city in Baltimore. She plans to study fashion merchandising at Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth, Texas, or Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas.
Patrick O'Brien graduated this May from North Bend Central High School in North Bend, Nebraska. He was involved in high school band, jazz band, chorus, Science Club, Spanish Club, Speech and Drama Club and 4-H. He will attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln this fall, studying biology.
Mallory Paxton will graduate in June from Lincoln North Star High School in Lincoln, Nebraska. During her high school career, she was involved in volleyball, basketball, cheerleading, honor roll and the National Honor Society. This fall, Paxton will attend Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, or Southeast Community College in either Lincoln or Beatrice, Nebraska.
Jaclyn Stenka will graduate this June from Lincoln Northeast High School in Lincoln, Nebraska. In high school, she was involved in orchestra, marching band, Campus Life and was a student ambassador. This fall, she will attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Duncan Aviation's scholarship program is open only to dependents of full-time Duncan Aviation employees. Duncan Aviation is an aircraft service provider supporting the aviation needs of government and business operators and other service providers. These services include airframe, engine, avionics installations, interior and paint completions/modifications, avionics/instrument and accessory/propeller repair/overhaul and parts support. Complete service facilities are located in Lincoln, Neb., and Battle Creek, Mich. Additional locations include satellite avionics facilities located throughout the United States and Components Solutions, a division that repairs, exchanges and consigns avionics, accessories, instruments and general aviation parts to aircraft operators and service organizations worldwide.
