Duncan Aviation Announces Karen K. Duncan Scholarship Winners From Nebraska, Michigan, Ohio and Florida

LINCOLN, NEB. — Duncan Aviation is pleased to announce the names of 20 recipients of Duncan Aviation’s 2010 Karen K. Duncan Scholarship program. The recipients, who have at least one parent who is a full-time Duncan Aviation employee, will each receive up to $4,000 for two years of continuing education at an accredited two- or four-year college or post-secondary vocational school. The money may be applied toward tuition, fees, books, or room and board.
Recipients were chosen by an independent selection committee who reviewed the students’ grade point averages, ACT scores, class ranking, citizenship, activities, leadership skills and responses to application essay questions. The winners include the following:
- Amalia Brettman, daughter of Russ and Carol Brettmann of Hickman, Neb.
- Benjamin Brouwer, son of Mike and Tamara Brouwer of Kalamazoo, Mich.
- Sean Davis, son of Tim and Wendy Davis of Battle Creek, Mich.
- Erin DeJonge, daughter of Mike and Jill Bohlen of Lincoln, Neb.
- Tien Dinh, daughter of Khai Dinh and Nguyet Ngyen of Lincoln
- Amanda Fuchser, daughter of John and Marna Fuchser of Lincoln
- Dylan Harris, son of Morris and Kathy Harris of Fulton, Mich.
- Amelia Homes, daughter of Daniel and Deanne Homes of Valparaiso, Neb.
- Amanda Jacobs, daughter of John and Suzette Jacobs of Battle Creek
- Riley Jelinek, daughter of Charlie and Kethleen Jelinek of Weston, Neb.
- Aaron King, son of Jeff and Marie King of Lincoln
- Jacob Krings, son of Steve and Lisa Krings of Milford, Neb.
- Brittany Paul, daughter of Stacy Paul of Lincoln
- Mollie Pleskac, daughter of Dave and Linda Pleskac of Lincoln
- Joshua Richardson, son of LaRae Richardson of Galesburg, Mich.
- Rachael Sahr, daughter of Larry Sahr and Connie Weltzhiemer of Stoutsville, Ohio
- Carson Shepherd, son of Clay and Linda Shepherd of Seward, Neb.
- Megan Svoboda, daughter of Jim and Marla Svoboda of Rising City, Neb.
- Jessica Wingert, daughter of Tim Wingert of Lincoln and Julie Noonan of Winter Haven, Fla.
- Teresa Winter, daughter of Blake and Cheryl Ann Winter of Lincoln
Amalia Brettman is a graduate of Norris High School in Firth, Neb. She was involved in many extra-curricular activities, including Show Choir, Titan Singers, Norris Musical, cheerleading and National Honor Society. She was also involved in the Capitol City Cloggers Competition Team and Shepherd of the Hills Youth Group. She will attend the University of Nebraska-Omaha this fall majoring in Communication Disorders.
Benjamin Brouwer will graduate June 3 from Kalamazoo Christian High School in Kalamazoo. He was involved in football, weightlifting, music, honor roll and was a member of the National Honor Society. He will attend either Kalamazoo Valley Community College in Kalamazoo or the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor this fall, studying Pre-med.
Sean Davis graduated this month from Pennfield High School in Battle Creek. He was involved in bowling, National Honors Society, and the Battle Creek Area Math and Science Center. He plans to attend Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo this fall, majoring in Engineering.
Eric DeJonge will graduate this June from Lincoln Southeast High School in Lincoln. During his high school years, he was involved in softball and bowling. This fall, he plans to attend Southeast Community College in Lincoln.
Tien Dinh will graduate this June from Lincoln North Star High School in Lincoln. She was involved in the Aslan Caucus, student council, SkillsUSA, Youth Leadership Lincoln and the National Honor Society. She will attend college this fall studying Nursing, but at the time of scholarship application was unsure where she would enroll.
Amanda Fuchser graduated in May from Parkview Christian High School in Lincoln. She was involved in volleyball, basketball and track. She was also on the Speech Team and was the class Vice President. At the time of scholarship application, Fuchser was still unsure which school she would attend this fall but she plans to study Culinary Arts.
Dylan Harris will graduate this summer from Vicksburg High School in Vicksburg, Mich. He was active in football, Ski Club and Student Senate. He plans to attend Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo this fall and study Aviation.
Amelia Homes graduated in May from Bishop Neumann High School in Wahoo, Neb. She was involved in volleyball and the Dance Team. This fall, she plans to attend the University of Nebraska at Omaha and may study Design.
Amanda Jacobs will graduate this summer from Pennfield High School in Battle Creek. A member of the National Honor Society, she was involved in cross country, track, marching band, symphonic band, pep band and jazz band. She plans to study English at Central College in Pella, Iowa.
Riley Jelinek graduated this May from Bishop Neumann High School in Wahoo. She was involved in softball and track. She will attend Midland Lutheran College in Fremont this fall, studying Nursing.
Aaron King will graduate in June from Lincoln East High School in Lincoln. During his high school career, he was involved in marching band, concert band and symphonic band. This fall, Aaron will attend the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, studying Architecture.
Jacob Krings will graduate this June from Seward High School in Seward, Neb. In high school, he was involved in marching band and symphonic band. This fall, Jacob will attend Concordia University in Sward, studying Computer Science.
Brittany Paul will graduate this June from Lincoln Southwest High School in Lincoln. In high school she was involved in marching band, concert band, pit orchestra, concert choir and was an invited guest soloist for the Lincoln Youth Symphony. She is also a member of the National Honor Society and the Multicultural Club. This fall, she will attend the University of Iowa in Iowa City, studying Biology and Music Performance.
Mollie Pleskac graduated this May from Pius X High School in Lincoln. During her high school career, she was involved in Students Organized Against Drugs & Alcohol, National Honors Society and was a group leader for the Freshman Retreat. This fall, she will attend Northwest Missouri State in Maryville, Mo., studying Fine Arts and Photography.
Joshua Richardson will graduate this June from Galesburg-Augusta High School in Galesburg. He was involved in symphonic band, varsity tennis, varsity track and field, student council and the National Honor Society. This fall, he will study Music at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo.
Rachel Sahr will graduate May 30 from Amanda-Clearcreek High School in Amanda, Ohio. She was involved in volleyball, basketball and student council; she was a member of National Honor Society and the Varsity Club. This fall, Rachel will attend Columbus State University in Columbus, Ohio, studying Pre-Law.
Carson Shepherd graduated this May from Seward High School in Seward. He was involved in the school’s marching band and symphonic band and handbell choir with Seward United Methodist Church. In addition, he placed first at Districts in Speech, second in the conference for One Acts and third place in 3D Animation for SkillsUSA. He will major in Computer Information Technology and attend Southeast Community College.
Megan Svoboda graduated this May from David City Public School in David City. This fall, she will major in Biology and attend Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln.
Jessica Wingert will graduate this June from Lake Region High School in Eagle Lake, Fla. She was involved in Academic Team and Spanish National Honor Society.
Teresa Winter was schooled at home in Lincoln. She was involved with drama through a local theater group, choir at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and various volunteer activities with the church.
