Duncan Aviation Leads Industry in Completed Falcon Winglet & Dry Bay Modifications
October 20, 2010
In the spring of 2009, Duncan Aviation was the first service provider to successfully install and certify Aviation Partners' (API) High-Mach Blended Winglets for the Falcon 2000 series. To-date, Duncan Aviation has completed 16 of the 19 total industry after-market installations on Falcon 2000/2000EX aircraft, with more being quoted for fourth quarter 2010 and first quarter 2011.
"Duncan Aviation has performed nearly all of the Falcon 2000 and 2000EX after-market winglet modifications completed over the last 18 months," says Pete Hubbard, Falcon Sales Representative for Duncan Aviation. "These operators have been quite pleased with the installations, telling us that not only do they like the aesthetics of the winglets but that they have noticed a significant performance increase and fuel savings within the first few hours of installation.
"Much of the credit for these successful installations goes to the expertise of Duncan Aviation's 40 structures technicians," Hubbard continues. "Their expertise and reputation help make Duncan Aviation the place to come for winglet installations."
The company is also educating customers about the advantages of winglets, including improved aircraft performance, improved resale valaue, and lower carbon-dioxide emissions. For more information about the advantages of winglets, read our five-part, winglet blog series published weekly on www.DuncanDownload.aero.
Falcon 2000 series blended winglet installations take about four weeks to complete and, depending on schedule and workscope, can be combined with projects that share similar downtimes, including C Checks, phone system installations, Wi-Fi or High-Speed Data installations, interior refurbishments and dry bay modifications.
In addition to winglet modifications, many aircraft have come to Duncan Aviation for the Falcon dry bay modification. Earlier this year, Dassault Aviation released service bulletins to operators of Falcon 50, 900 and 2000 series aircraft calling for the installation of an additional wing dry bay area, located outboard of the existing dry bay. This dry bay is designed to contain any fuel leakage during an aircraft incident causing damage to the wing structure in the main landing gear wheel well. The modification kit is only available to service facilities that have completed training from Dassault.
Technicians at both Duncan Aviation full-service locations completed the training in early 2010 and have completed 39 modifications so far in 2010. Of these modifications, 30 were completed on the Falcon 2000 and 2000EX models (many in conjunction with winglet installations), five were on Falcon 900 and 900EX models and four were on Falcon 50 and 50EX models.
"It makes perfect sense to combine the dry bay modeification with a winglet installation," Hubbard says, "because it allows operators to have both items accomplished in one downtime with a single access of the lower wing planks."
In addition to the Falcon 2000 and 2000EX winglets, Duncan Aviation is an installation center for API's Hawker 800 series Blended Winglet program. For more information about Hawker 800 winglets, visit our Hawker airframe capabilities page at www.DuncanAviation.aero/airframe.
