Duncan Aviation Updates ADS-B, Satcom “Straight Talk” Aviation Resources; Publishes NextGen and FANS 1/A Ebooks
May 14, 2012
LINCOLN, NEB. — Duncan Aviation has recently added to its online Straight Talk collection of aviation resources by editing and updating its ADS-B and Satcom ebooks to include the latest information on these quickly changing technologies and publishing books to help operators better understand NextGen and FANS 1/A. Below are some details about these changes and additions.
Straight Talk About ADS-B
Authored by Duncan Aviation’s avionics experts, Straight Talk About ADS-B provides operators with the right information to make informed decisions in regards to ADS-B compliance. Since its digital release on March 17, 2011, the ebook has had more than 430 downloads, providing hundreds of operators valuable information in regards to ADS-B.
“We understand the retrofit of business aircraft with ADS-B compatible equipment will be a significant event for all of us,” says Matt Nelson, Manager of Satellite Operations. “We have conducted ample research and talked with dozens of our customers, vendors, and regulatory agencies to develop Straight Talk About ADS-B. This update provides operators with even more up-to-date information as it now includes new guidance regarding TCAS change 7.1.”
Straight Talk About Satcom
The update to Straight Talk About Satcom and HSD also provides operators with the latest information about aircraft communication and data capabilities, which are changing quickly.
"Aircraft communication and data capabilities continue to change very quickly," Nelson says. "Aircraft cabin communication systems are available at higher speeds and offer better coverage. Keeping up with these frequent product and service changes is like tracking an ever-moving target. Consequently, many in the industry do not feel confident in choosing the best solution for their aircraft. The update to this booklet gives them more up-to-date information to help with that decision."
Straight Talk About NextGen and Straight Talk About FANS 1/A
A quick overview of the FAA’s NextGen initiative is provided in Straight Talk About NextGen and is continued in Straight Talk About FANS 1/A.
Duncan Aviation avionics experts know that there is much to understand on the topic of NextGen. Steve Elofson, Duncan Aviation Installations Sales Rep in Lincoln, Neb., hopes to answer operators’ questions with the release of Straight Talk About NextGen.
“We believe our efforts in finding and condensing this information should address many operators’ concerns. This Straight Talk gives an overview of NextGen, providing a simple explanation of the many systems, standards, policies and procedures that will ensure safe and efficient aircraft operations in the future” says Elofson.
As Next Generation initiatives continue to become a reality in the aviation community, more operators really want to know what these initiatives are and what they mean to the individual operator. The question always comes down to value; if I need to upgrade my aircraft, what am I getting for the sometimes substantial investment?
Unfortunately there is no one answer, just like there is no one solution, and the value may change depending upon the solution that makes the most sense for the aircraft. When it comes to FANS 1/A the question can be murky because there are a lot of variables to deal with. There is no one avionics solution that will fit every aircraft, and often it takes a variety of avionics solutions to come up with the final solution that will allow an aircraft to become compliant.
With the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) need to roll out a Next Generation Air Traffic Control system, EASA mandating Future Air Navigation Systems (FANS) and with the best oceanic routes going to FANS compliant aircraft, there are many operators wondering what each of the FAA’s NextGen systems are and how they can be used, the implications of cost and even if there is a solution for their aircraft. While there are no easy answers in the retrofit market, Straight Talk About FANS 1/A is meant to help clarify FANS 1/A for those operators.
