Service & Stability
Obviously, when an operator is ready to perform a large inspection, experience will be one of the most important factors determining which MRO will be awarded the project. There are many indicators that speak loudly to the stability and quality of a MRO, this includes the number of years they have been in business, what OEMs have awarded Authorized Service Status and what is being said about them by others in the industry.
Experience
Make sure that the MRO you select has on-staff technical representatives for your airframe. Technical representatives who are assigned specific airframes should be knowledgeable at a superior level regarding their particular expertise on their airframe, including knowledge of recent service bulletins and other relevant OEM information.
Efficiency
This is one of the toughest questions to answer unless you are familiar with the MROs you are considering, but it is extremely important to the overall well-being of your project. A lower labor rate is meaningless if your service provider’s mechanics are slow in their work. Team experience, attitude and the level of expertise of team leaders is crucial in determining how efficient your project will be.
References
From each facility, request a list of references from customers with the same airframe you have and then call them. Ask the references about communication during the project, the billing process, attitude and expertise of the teams servicing their aircraft. Did they feel there were any hidden charges? If there were problems after the inspection, were they handled well? References can go a long way to answering some of your toughest questions.
