Some things to consider for people who don’t have time to watch this whole presentation or listen to it.
Legacy Aircraft Interfaces
Legacy aircraft interfaces probably could be a problem. If you’ve got an older aircraft, 20 years or older, it’s a possibility that WAAS/LPV would not work in your aircraft. We’ll talk a little bit about field approvals in the presentation but there’s things that you should know that there’s no system that can go into it with a standard field approval.
Field Approval Method
The field approval method is similar to a mini STC. It requires that the company that puts the system in goes through quite a bit of analysis to make sure that it works properly in your aircraft.
Annunciators
There will be a need for annunciators. Whether the annunciators are external to your existing displays or internal to your existing displays, it depends on the type of equipment you presently have.
Next-Gen Criteria
It is the present. It’s not the future. The writing is on the wall that this system is what’s going to be necessary for the Next-Gen criteria.
What can you do? You can have your aircraft checked. It may not be a candidate, so this will help you in your long range planning.
Does your aircraft meet the criteria for a WAAS/LPV solution?
What will I need to determine if my aircraft can handle a WAAS/LPV solution? A good step is to look at the flight manual supplement. Let us see a copy of the flight manual supplement for your flight management system that you currently have installed. Let us look at that and then tell us what the make, model and part number of your existing symbol generators are. From that, we should be able to determine if your aircraft meets the criteria for a WAAS/LPV solution.
