The Honeywell GNS-XL / XLS Flight Management System (FMS) uses a slide-in database card that holds relevant data about airports including, latitude / longitude and runway information.
At Duncan Aviation, some operators have informed us these cards are causing strange issues with their FMS system; reporting blanked FMS display screens or frozen systems at start up or initialization.
If you have a subscription through Honeywell to update your database card, perform a download. If this does not repair the issues you are experiencing, the database card may be bad or there may be internal failures within the FMS.
A new card can be purchased online or through Honeywell.
If you continue to experience squawks after the download, contact a Duncan Aviation tech rep for help with further troubleshooting.
