Caution Is Needed In The Use Of Safe-T-Cables

The use of Safe-T-Cables in place of lock wire has been an accepted practice for quite some time and is especially useful in repeated applications or in tight areas. In fact, Dassault AMM 20-42-01-960-804-01 has a task card specifically for its use. But using it in a catch-all situation can get you in trouble.

In the picture above Duncan Aviation technicians were tasked to bleed the slat actuators. They found the crimped cable lugs for the bleed screws wedged in the safety holes. This resulted in the actuators being removed from the aircraft, increasing man-hours and the likelihood of component damage.
