In this video, Michael Kussatz, Duncan Aviation’s Corporate Turboprop Captain and Avionics Sales Rep, explains how a full Garmin G600TXi flight deck avionics upgrade improves flight safety, situational awareness, and automation on a CJ2 airframe.
Here’s a little bit about what you’ll learn.
The G600TXi upgrade goes further than the GTN750 by providing significant safety and convenience upgrades that were previously reserved for two-crew operations. For instance, the system offers features like audible callouts for V1 and V2 speeds during takeoff, simulating the support a co-pilot would provide. These callouts can be essential for single-pilot operations, ensuring that critical information is relayed even during the busiest moments of flight.
In addition to takeoff enhancements, the system provides added safety measures during approaches. Pilots benefit from oral callouts that alert the pilot of an unstable approach by monitoring airspeed and glide path deviations. Crosswind and tailwind conditions are also monitored, with alerts if conditions are exceeded, helping pilots maintain situational awareness in real-time.
Another major feature is the new engine display, which calculates the optimal N1 thrust settings based on the outside air temperature. This removes the need for pilots to manually refer to reference charts, allowing them to focus on flying.
The GFC600 autopilot adds even more value with capabilities like a fully coupled VNAV (vertical navigation) for smoother descents, an emergency descent mode, and ESP (electronic stability protection), which monitors the aircraft's orientation and intervenes if the plane is pushed beyond safe parameters while the pilot is hand-flying the aircraft.
Finally, the upgrade includes the GWX8000 radar system, which offers significant advances in weather detection. With continuous scanning, turbulence detection, and predictive wind shear capabilities, this radar provides pilots with a comprehensive understanding of the weather conditions ahead. Paired with the GDL69 XM Weather System, it offers a complete picture of the weather, ensuring safer, more informed flights.
This Garmin upgrade is a game-changer for CJ2 operators, and we’re proud to bring this level of safety and technology to the cockpit.
