Video DI: How To Properly Service Oil In A Honeywell TFE731 Engine

December 2018

Duncan Aviation turbine engine technicians have a lot of experience with over-serviced business aircraft engines. Over-serviced engines have had too much oil added.

If oil is checked while the engine is cold (service cold), the levels look low, leading to the assumption that oil needs to be added. But once the engine begins to spool, churning the oil, these levels rise.

After about a five-minute engine run, oil levels increase significantly. If there is too much oil (over-service), there is potential for the following squawks to occur:

  • High oil pressure
  • Gearbox seal failure
  • Excessive oil streaks on cowling

Watch the following video on how to properly service oil in a Honeywell TFE731 engine.
